Below is my “Check-in Checklist”. I routinely check in with myself by consciously going through this list in my mind. I do this whenever I am walking alone in nature, when I am waiting for someone or something, or as I am lying in bed at night. Mindfully moving through my list is one of my favorite ways in which I proactively practice self-care and self-reflection, one of the best ways in which I instantly become more aware of and more appreciative of my surroundings, and one of the most effective ways in which I fall asleep with ease (this is something I really used to struggle with). In future posts, I plan to expand upon some of the items on the list as well as some of the things I often think about as I go through the list. For now, I just want to make my own personal “Check-in Checklist” available to others in the hope that it might help someone soon. I invite you to regularly check in with yourself, too, by utilizing my checklist and/or by creating your own. Win the next play!
Check-in Checklist
1. What can I do right now to win the next play?
2. Choose to be centered.
3. Breathe consciously.
4. Proactively practice self-care.
5. Kindness begins with simple acts of awareness.
6. We are part of nature. Live in harmony with the cycles, seasons, and rhythms of the universe.
7. Confusion and wisdom are one. As the ice of confusion thaws, the water of wisdom flows.
8. True love is caring about someone else more than yourself, in a healthy way. Self-love is caring about yourself enough to have enough love to give away.
9. The purpose of life is to learn, to teach, and to love.
10. Remember who you really are. You are now. You are present. Be present now.
I’m looking forward to hearing you expand on this checklist.
My next post will likely be on centering (#2 on the list), something Dad introduced me to (and has since probably forgotten about) when I was a teenager.
Good job Brad.
Thank you, Dad.
