It is December 21st, 2023. Today/tonight marks the winter solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. It is the beginning of winter. For me, just being aware of something like the winter solstice is a good way to live in harmony with the cycles, seasons, and rhythms of the universe (one of the items on my Check-in Checklist). The winter solstice is not a time of death. It is a time of rest and rebirth. From here on, until the summer solstice in June, the days will slowly get longer and longer. I also like to think about how my ancient ancestors might have celebrated the winter solstice. That helps me to feel like I’m living in harmony with their rhythms, too. Speaking of living in harmony, as I was writing this post this morning, my wife greeted me with a, “Happy winter solstice!” I married the right person. Win the next play!
